Musiq Wants A Break From Music

R&B/Soul Singer Musiq has decided that the time has come to focus more on writing and producing following the release of six studio albums.

“I think I want to take a step back a little bit as an artist,” Musiq confirmed in an interview Monday.

While the prospect of hearing a new album and single from Musiq may not happen for sometime, he is not stepping away completely. In fact, Musiq has begun writing and producing for other artists including Chrisette Michele and Bow Wow.

“I’m not going to stop performing or being an artist. I do enjoy singing and all of that, but it takes away from being creative. At least with being a writer-producer you can constantly create and make music and things like that,” says Musiq Soulchild.

On top of writing and producing for other acts, Musiq is writing his first book. According to the publisher, DIP, the book will likely be in stores Summer 2012.

Described as a book “about love and relationships and music,” the project is in development.

Since his debut in 2000, with “Aijuswanaseing,” Musiq has released six albums. His hits include “Love,” “Halfcrazy,” “IfULeave,” and “Teach Me”. His last album, “MusiqInTheMagiq,” was released last May (2011).

J. Cole Announces “The Sideline Story Tour”

J.Cole has announced that he will headline the Campus Consciousness Spring 2012/Sideline Story Tour, in support of his critically acclaimed album Cole World: The Sideline Story.

J.Cole will hit the road with Big K.R.I.T. starting this April.

The Campus Consciousness Spring 2012/Sideline Story Tour tour is being sponsored by Reverb, a program that aims to educate and mobilize students to make positive changes for the environment.

“My music gives me a platform to reach a lot of young people,” J.Cole told AllHipHop.com. “I’m happy to be partnering with Reverb to engage my fans and hope they’ll get on board with these positive environmental messages.”

Daytime activities for students prior to the concert at the CCT “Eco-Village” include voter registration, live music and other Eco-friendly initiatives.

“We’re thrilled to be working with J. Cole this spring,” Reverb Co-Director and founder Adam Gardner stated. “He is so clearly passionate about social issues and I am looking forward to our two camps joining together to make a difference.”

The 17-date-tour kicks off April 11 in Rhode Island, and winds down May 4 in South Orange, New Jersey at a private location.

Diddy Announces Music-Themed Revolt TV

Diddy television is official. After weeks of unconfirmed reports and unofficial announcements Sean “Diddy” Combs took to YouTube on Tuesday (February 21) to introduce Revolt TV, his music-themed cable network.

“The revolution will be televised,” the Bad Boy CEO dramatically began his three-and-a-half-minute announcement. Revolt, which will be distributed by Comcast, is part of the company’s commitment to put more minority-run cable networks on television. USA Today reports that NBA star Magic Johnson and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez are also developing their own networks with the cable giant.

“When I was growing up, I was watching television all the time — I used to wonder, ‘Why don’t those people look like me, or talk like me or walk like me?’ So thank you to Comcast; my hat goes off to you for being the first to step up,” Diddy said before inviting Time Warner, DirecTV and other cable providers to also pick up his channel.

During a January interview with MTV News, the music mogul responded to the premature reports, only going on record to confirm that Revolt will bring a “new energy” to television. He also gave props to music networks like MTV for paving the way.

“Revolt TV is bringing that revolution that television needs,” Diddy said in the clip. “I grew up watching BET and MTV and HBO and NBC, and I had a dream. I had a dream that one day I would get a chance, an opportunity to show my perspective coming from a musical standpoint.

Revolt TV is expected to go live at the end of 2012.

Jay-Z, Kanye West Take The Throne Overseas

Jay-Z and Kanye West are about to get the people going again — this time overseas. International Hov and Martin Louis the King Jr. are taking their fan-favorite and critically acclaimed tour to Europe, where they recorded significant portions of their groundbreaking Watch the Throne LP.

The 12-show run kicks off May 20 at the O2 Arena in London and runs through Switzerland, Norway, Germany and Belgium, ending on June 13. As far as when Jay and ‘Ye will be bringing their ubiquitous hit “N—as in Paris” to its point of inspiration, the duo will be holding down two shows on June 1 and June 2 at Paris Bercy.

Jay and Kanye kicked off their WTT tour in October in Atlanta at the Phillips Arena. Noted for its unique set design with two rising pillars, the North American run of the tour found Hov and Yeezy bouncing off of each other perfectly, performing songs from both the Throne album and their individual catalogs. It was a gaudy display of hits that usually ended with the infectious “N—as in Paris” being performed multiple times — a record-breaking 11 times during their Vancouver stop.

Ludacris Engages in “Parking Lot Pimpin’” For New Movie

Atlanta, Georgia, rap star Ludacris is gearing up to bring a bit of “what happens after leaving the club” to the big screen with his upcoming film, Parking Lot Pimpin’.

The Coke Daniels-directed feature is a co-production between Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace company and Hoody Allan Productions, reports Moviehole.net. Ludacris stars in the movie as Walt, a young man who, following a nasty break-up, teams up with his slick buddy, Dez, for a night on the town after a nasty break-up.

Although Dez promises to teach Walt the art of “parking lot pimping” – a phrase derived from clubgoers waiting in the parking lot outside the club to approach women as they come out of the venue after a night of dancing and socializing – Walt learns that everyone in town sees through his friend and his cheap scams.

In addition being in front of the camera for Parking Lot Pimpin, Ludacris will work behind the scenes as a producer for the film, which is set to begin shooting in April. Musically, Ludacris is currently working with the Neptunes on Ludaversal, his follow-up to his 2010 album, Battle of the Sexes.

Ludaversal, a “sequel” to the lyricist’s Theater of the Mind, is set to hit stores in May.
