Summer is about to get hotter. New music is surfacing everyday and new artists are out to prove their worth. Qwote has been on the grind and ready to prove some things. MiddleChild caught up with the new Jive recording artist and discussed his album, hooking up with Trina and Shaggy and more.
MiddleChild: What's good Qwote? How is everything going with you?
Qwote: Everything is good man. I'm happy. I'm excited. There is really nothing to complain about.
MiddleChild: I hear you. Well first of all let me know how it feels being the new kid on the block with Slip N Slide.
Qwote: Well it's a lot to learn but it's an honor. It's a privilege. Of course I got the pioneers ahead of me like Rick Ross and Plies and Trina. But everything is good.
MiddleChild: Right. And speaking of Trina, your single features her. Well one version features her and the other features Shaggy. So you know I have to ask you which is your favorite?
Qwote: I've been asked that and honestly, my response to everyone is it's like having a child. You can't pick. I really don't have a favorite. I love both of them.
MiddleChild: Okay. Well your work with Trina is what sort of got you your deal with Slip N Slide. Tell me how that went down. That whole encounter.
Qwote: Well I'm signed with an independent music label, Soundcut Music Group, and we were invited to work on the project, on Trina's project, and Trina came into the studio and we pretty much vibed from the get go. She's a real cool person. Real fun to hang around with and we started to work with each other and that's pretty much how things started out. That’s how the first record came out. The "Phone Sex" record thats on her new album. So after we recorded that record I asked "Trina what's up with doing a record with me" and she was cool with it and that's how she ended up on the "Don't Wanna Fight" record and so here we are.
MiddleChild: Well when a new face comes on the scene people are automatically going to wonder what is it about you that's going to stand out. What's going to make me a fan of yours?
Qwote: What I tell everyone is that my music is music that evokes and sparks action and I stick by that because I believe it. I believe that my music is classic music. When you sit and listen to it, it's going to basically reflect what's going on in life as is. I want people to take that and apply it to their lives the best way they can. So it's basically like a manuscript.
MiddleChild: So besides Shaggy and Trina who else did you link up with for your project?
Qwote: We have a Spanish version out right now with Pit Bull which is crazy. That song is crazy. I'm singing in Spanish. We're actually working out possibly doing a feature with T-Pain on the record and also with Plies.
MiddleChild: And what would be your favorite track on the album right now?
Qwote: My favorite track on the album right now? Wow. I have a record I'm working on now. Well I actually finished it. It's called "808". I think that's my favorite track right now because it takes you back to that special feeling or good memory to when you were dating that special something so that would be my favorite record. That "808" record.
MiddleChild: Okay. I said earlier you were the new kid on the block but you told me you were indie. So how long have you actually been doing this music thing?
Qwote: I would say overall like six years officially. Overall. Indie all the way to major. And I learned that it's not an easy road. I know a lot of people say that, but it isn't. It's not an easy road and it's frustrating, but at the end it is rewarding when you do obviously get a deal and people see this ambition that you see. It's keeps you going and you realize it's well worth it. So for the most part, I'm glad I kept it going when I was indie. I'm glad I kept it going when I signed with Slip N Slide and I'm glad to be where I'm at right now with Jive. I'm just looking to continue to go further so that I can do bigger and better things.
MiddleChild: That's what's up. And the album is titled what?
Qwote: The album title is Qwote on Qwote and you can look for it this summer. We don't have a confirmed date yet, but we're anticipating it to drop this summer.
MiddleChild: That's definitely what's up then. We'll get the people on Qwote and let them know where to find you. I'm sure you have a myspace page where your fans can link up with you right?
Qwote: Definitely. It's myspace.com/qwote and they can definitely plug in there and check out the blogs and see what's going on. Check out the tour dates and shows and updates with anything and everything that's going on with Qwote.
MiddleChild: Well cool. I'll send a friend request also and we'll make it do what it do man.
Qwote: I appreciate it man. Thank you.
MiddleChild: No problem. Have a good one.
Qwote: You too.
